One of my favorite books is You've Got Dragons by Cave and Maland. It is an incredible story about a boy who realizes that he is surrounded by dragons. He can't escape them, he can't ignore them and they are scary. This is my story about dancing with a dragon. My goal is to journal for myself and for anyone else who is interested in reading about my opportunity. Let me introduce you to my dragon. His name is Myasthenia Gravis. But I call him MG for short.
I am not surprised if you have never heard of MG. I didn't know him either until he came to live with me almost 7 years ago. He has changed my life. Myasthenia gravis means grave muscle weakness. It is a rare neuromuscular autoimmune disorder. I was told that it is named grave because that is where it puts you. I think that was true many years ago but today it is manageable. I experience profound weakness. Sometimes my head feels so heavy that I can't lift it off my bed. One day in the hospital, I was so weak that I could not put lotion on my own hands. Walking from the bedroom to the bathroom can literally take my breath away.
Dragons come in many forms, shapes, sizes and colors. We all encounter dragons on life's journey. I hope that blogging about my experiences on this trek will help me to learn new dance steps and hopefully help others who also live with a dragon no matter what his name. Thank you for visiting my new blog. Remember, you choose to make your own happiness even if you have dragons.
