I am sure you have heard the saying that any man can be a father but it takes someone special to be a daddy. God blessed me with a daddy. I have so many fun memories with my daddy. He was the best daddy. One of the memories that I have of him was watching Hawaii 5-0. He loved it. Daddy had a big recliner that he sat in while he was watching tv. He would lean back in the big recliner, prop his feet and watch McGarrett and Danno. I would take a blanket or sheet and cover the end of the recliner to make a tent. This is how we watched tv together. I vividly remember getting our first color television and how beautiful Hawaii looked on the show. One of my jobs was to be my Daddy's remote control. For you young whipper snappers, there was a time before televisions came with a remote control. (I know I am definitely showing my age.) One of his favorite comments to me was, "While you are up change the channel". The problem was that I was not "up". Even though I complained I got up and changed the channel. I can't stop smiling even as I write this memory.
There are many fun memories of hours of Hawaii 5-0. The new Hawaii 5-0 is fun for me to watch, too. BTW the new McGarrett is very easy on the eyes :). As I watched the show on Monday night the memories flooded my mind. I like the show but I love the memories that I have of watching it with my daddy. Of course we ended the show every week with McGarrett, my Daddy and me saying "Book em, Danno." My time with my Daddy on earth was way too short. He died of a heart attack with I was a senior in high school. I still miss him but I am grateful for the wonderful man he was and the legacy that he left for me.
For those of you who still have you Daddy here on earth, I encourage you to nurture that relationship. It is special even if there are challenges. Thank you, Lord, for the wonderful Daddy you gave to me on earth. My Daddy was an earthly example of the Heavenly Daddy that You are to me. Thank you, Lord, that I will get to spend eternity with my earthly Daddy and with my Heavenly Daddy. I am blessed. " He will turn the hearts of the fathers to their children, and the hearts of the children to their fathers." Malachi 4:6
