OK, Well

OK, Well...are not the most comforting words coming from my nurse. I went on Friday to have my new IVIG meds. There were lots of nervous butterflies in my stomach on Thursday night. After lots of praying, I got one of my favorite nurses at the clinic. I felt a lot of relief in seeing her. We got started with the infusion on time. There were no issues at all with my port. We started the infusion at a very slow rate to minimize the risk of any side effects. I knew that I was scheduled to get 40 grams on Friday and 40 grams on Monday. Each bottle contains 10 grams so that is 4 bottles. Everything seemed to be going well. I did have a headache so we slowed the infusion down a few times but I seemed to be doing well. My nurse changed the bottles and after about 6 hours I was finally finished. The nurse came over to my chair and said, "OK, well it seems that you got all 80 grams today instead of getting only 40. How are you feeling?"

To say the least, I was a little surprised. The new IVIG product comes in 20 gram bottles. (The bottles looked the same size to me before you ask.) I think it also has something to do with the concentration levels of the medication. My usual IVIG is 5% and the new IVIG is 10%. I have done pretty well with the infusion over the weekend. I am unusually tired but it may be because I was almost 3 weeks behind in getting my IVIG. I am happy that I didn't have any flu like side effects from the infusion. The good news is I don't have to go to the infusion clinic again for 2 weeks. I am going to get my nails done and have a relaxing day today. I think I will get my dogs and take a long nap. I thank God for protecting me with the new medication and especially thank Him for His hand of protection in getting double the dose I should have had. "In addition to all this, take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one." Ephesians 6:16
