It had been a couple of days since my surgery. Dr. R told Todd that the tumor was the size of a lemon but that it had "fingers" stretching out from it. The fingers of the tumor were attached to the lining of my heart. He said that he worked hard to get all of the tumor and all of the parts of the fingers. He was confident that he had gotten all of it. I was still in intensive care when Dr. K came in about 6:00 one night. He had the results back from the biopsy on my tumor. The tumor had been growing. There were some parts of the fingers that had cells that were suspicious. Dr. K had consulted with an oncologist and wanted me to meet with him. (ANOTHER DOCTOR!) The report Dr. K had called the tumor "actively benign". There was a concern that it might become cancerous. Dr. K was surprised with the results. No one thought that the tumor would be of any concern at all. I was shocked, too. It had never occurred to me that I would have to face not only MG, surgery to remove my thymus and now that possibility that I would have to do chemo for cancer.
I called Karen. Karen, Becky and Janet came to the hospital that night. We all put on a "happy face" but there was a tension in the room and a lot of nervous chatter. I was still very weak. Now there was the added stress of knowing that the tumor was not benign and there was more unknown that had to be handled. "For I know the plans I have for you, declares the LORD, plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future." Jeremiah 29:11
