What is in a name?

Names are very important. My name was chosen especially for me by my parents. My mother originally wanted me to be named for my father but he would have none of that so I am named for her Uncle Kayo. Choosing a name is a very important decision. God told Zechariah what name he should give to John and God told Mary what name to give Jesus. Our names reflect so much about our families and heritage.

MG's name is very descriptive, too. It definitely fits his personality of a grave muscle disease. MG and I went to see my neurologist, Dr. K, yesterday. Dr. K is a very kind and mild-mannered man. He was pleased with my progress. In his kind way, he scolded me by reminding me "this is a very serious disease" and "you are in a serious situation" and "you are taking dangerous medications". He is right of course. Sometimes I would like to ignore MG because frankly I just don't like his behavior.

Todd thought I was mad at his behavior when I left all those lists for him when he was younger. I signed ILY on all of those lists. When Kate joined our family, I would text or email her and sign "IIY" on all of her messages. After almost 2 years of receiving messages from me with ILY written at the bottom she finally said to me one day, "What does Ily mean?". I could not figure out what she was talking about. She explained that I wrote it on the bottom of all of my messages to her. I said OOOOOHHHH you mean I LOVE YOU. Of course that produced a big OOOOOHHHHH from her and lots of laughs from both of us. Ily is a very special name for me now because that is what I am teaching LBoy to call me. He is learning so much and can point to Daddy, Mommy, the doggie and his nose. But today was my greatest happiness as a grandmother so far. When Kate said "Ily" while I was visiting with them, he pointed to ME!!

As I ponder names, I am listening to Phillips, Craig and Dean sing "Your Name". Thanks for the reminder about Christ. "Your name is a strong and might tower. Your name is a shelter like no other. Your name let the nations sing it louder. Cause nothing has the power to save but Your name."

  2. It took me a minute to figure out the ILY, but I figured it was text or something, because I knew your name already!

Jacob is named after grandfathers and great fathers on both my and my husband's sides, and Douglas (his middle name) after Daddy.
