Timing is Everything

A man bought a new pair of shoes that he wore to work for the first time on September 11, 2001. The shoes rubbed blisters on his feet and he stopped to buy some band aids at the corner pharmacy. He was not in his office in the World Trade Center when it was hit by the airplane that morning because he stopped to buy the band aids. God's timing is everything.

Last week I shared the dilemma with my IVIG. When I got to the local infusion clinic a week ago on Friday, the nurse met me in the waiting room. They forgot to order my IVIG. So, I rescheduled to go a week ago today to get the IVIG they ordered. But, last Monday, it didn't come in and I rescheduled again for last Friday. God's timing is everything.

I went to the infusion clinic at my scheduled time on Friday morning. The nurse I had is one that I have had only one other time. When she accessed my port the last time it was awful. It hurt like crazy. I sat there and cried for 30 minutes. The same thing happened on Friday. It was painful. I sat and cried again. She asked another nurse to access my port. I sat and waited. She hung the IVIG on the pole and I finally started getting the meds. We begin the infusion slowly and ramp it up every 15 minutes. After an hour, I looked up and realized that instead of the IVIG dripping, the saline solution had been dripping for the past hour. I was not getting any of the IVIG. I asked one of the other nurses to check it and she clamped the saline so the IVIG would begin to drip. God's timing is everything.

Within 2 or 3 minutes, the head nurse came to my chair. She had an alarmed look on her face. She just received an email from the clinic pharmacist that the IVIG brand I take had an urgent and immediate recall. They were to stop all infusion of the medication. She stated that they would give me me the remainder of the bottle that was dripping but that I would not be able to take any of the other bottles. We discussed that I probably had not had much if any of the current bottle because of the difficulty accessing my port and the saline dripping instead of the IVIG. She decided to call the pharmacist to find out why the IVIG was recalled. Almost immediately she returned with an even more concerned look, unhooked the IVIG without saying a word and said that I would not be given any more. The IVIG was causing blood clots. God's timing is everything.

I have been frustrated that I did not get my IVIG in the past 2 weeks. It seemed that everything that could go wrong did go wrong and I didn't get it. What I didn't remember in my worldly frustration, is that God's timing is perfect. He was in control all along. It was His timing that I didn't get the IVIG that might have caused me to have a stroke, heart attack or even killed me. God is protecting me. His timing is perfect.

Today, my doctor, the pharmacist and I will decide how to proceed with my treatment. I am not sure what will happen. But I do know that God's timing is perfect and I thank Him that He is in control. Yet those who wait for the LORD will gain new strength; they will mount up with wings like eagles, they will run and not get tired, they will walk and not become weary.: Isaiah 40:31
